(The Long)
I am a screenwriter and creator drawn to stories of psychology, uncertainty and the systems that shape human behavior. Admittedly, for much of my life I’ve viewed the world around me as an unsettling place, less out of cynicism and more out of curiosity. At the center of this unsettlement is my drive to understand as much as I can about the world. As a product of this, much of my writing explores the human limits of perception, things like the separation between the self and others, the unknown and unknowable, and the theoretical concepts and spaces of dreams. Often intersecting with these psychological fascinations is the broader world and its workings. Our world’s warfare, geopolitics, and technology’s role in them are at the macro level are some of the inspirations and focuses of the worlds I create. I believe the characters of these worlds I write have the unique opportunity to be the better or find the understanding that I wish I strive for. Whether of a realistic or surrealistic tone, my work -- much like my interpretation of the world around me, is driven by questions rather than answers. This curiosity shapes my writing. I prefer to begin my development of a story with its worldbuilding, to establish the political, technological, emotional and psychological elements early, to create as much detail as possible and to allow the narrative and characters to emerge within a realized environment. Creating a truly detailed world however requires a plethora of perspectives. I feel my stories reach a desirable conclusion only after several iterations and through the critique of others. In all things, a variety of perspectives, worldviews and opinions helps smooth out rough surfaces, and I feel the same is true in my writing. In my story development, I value failures as a tool for progress as a further measure of iteration and growth. I believe this growth comes forward most prominently from listening closely, reworking relentlessly, and observing a variety of perspectives.I’m currently working on original screenplays across film, television and narrative games, with an ultimate goal of contributing to stories in these mediums as a career. Through my studies at Kennesaw State University, I’ve become proficient in the formatting, development and research required for screenwriting and production. Additionally, through personal projects I have developed skills in videography, editing and the software required to produce short visual works. I’ve been able to utilize this knowledge to assist on productions in the Atlanta area and am always looking to do and learn more through this work. Overall, I’m deeply eager to continue learning and growing as a creative through collaboration, mentorship and real-world production settings to create works that offer audiences the same awe and impact and reflections that first drew me to storytelling.
